Back in 2011, an early version of Nikotin’s “Broken Dreams” suggested that the Dubai-based rockers had some seriously big ideas for their imminent full-length. Three years later and Panodrama – a concise, eight-track love letter to heavy rock staples: soaring choruses and chugging guitar riffs – is finally finished. Catchy hooks abound (“Decide,” “Overloaded” and the updated, Breaking Benjamin-esque “Broken Dreams” have just the right amount of schmaltz to avoid sounding contrived), and there’s a clear ear for a classic rock tune. The occasional clumsy lyric is a little distracting, but there’s enough of a beating rock heart to power through.
