Pindoll

Twisted Times

With guitarist Miran Gurunian’s pedigree in seminal Beirut band Blend, Pindoll were always likely to grab attention. Add in Erin Mikaelian’s classy voice – capable of breath-y fragility and throat-scraping brutality – and you get a genuinely thrilling debut album, full of confidence and fluidity. That self-assurance means Pindoll are willing to underplay when necessary, giving an alluringly sparse simplicity to their sound – subtly complex beats and space-y guitar lines a perfect foundation for Mikaelian’s drama-heavy vocals selling stories of f***ed-up love affairs. But Pindoll are also capable of rocking out with abandon. It’s an exhilarating mix.
